School of Medicine

This school instructs its students in all aspects of Military Medicine, which is the main focus of the SFMC Medical Branch. Topics include SFMC Medical Protocols and Procedures, First Aid, Traditions, Unit Organization, Equipment, Portable Structures, Pharmacopeia, and many more. The School of Military Medicine is administered through the Office of the Commandant, STARFLEET Marine Corps Academy by the Director, Medical Branch. Courses are currently available through the MD-301 level and all are available online for immediate credit.

Be forewarned! Due to the detailed and precise nature of the subject matter covered in Medical Branch Guidebook, these exams are significantly more difficult than their counterparts in the other branches.  Warning!! Due to its subject matter, the School of Medicine course materials may contain graphic images. If you do not feel that you can handle photographs of actual or simulated battlefield wounds some of these courses may not be for you.

Courses Available

MD100 Introduction to the Branch: This is a course to qualify you as a Marine of the SFMC Medical Branch. Marines at this level are expected to have a general broad-based knowledge of all aspects of the SFMC Medical Branch, its operations and medical protocols and procedures.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100

MD110 MOS Familiarization Course: This course is designed to make the student aware of the MOS’s available to Medical Branch Marines and to educate them on the courses they will need to take in order to be fully qualified for the various occupational specialties.

MD120 Medical History and Traditions Course: This course is focused on the History and Traditions of SFMC Medical Branch.  This course covers both real and fictional traditions of the branch, including the fictional historical background of the SFMC Medical Branch and is inclusive of real-life medical history from Earth.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100, MD100.

MD201 Advance Medical Branch Qualification Course: The next step in the Branch Education Program. At this stage Marines of the Medical Branch are not only expected to fully understand the Medical Branch Command at the Medical Unit level, but also places more emphasis on assessment procedures and SFMC protocols and procedures.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100, MD100

MD211 Combat Lifesaver Course: Combat Lifesavers are Marines from other branches who receive additional amounts of extra medical training beyond basic first aid.  Their focus would be to provide point of care and the link between buddy aid and the C-Medic.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100 – MD100 is NOT needed for this course. Only graduates from either AE100, AR100, CE100, IN100, ME100, MO100, SO100 or SU100 qualify for this course.

MD221 Aerospace Medicine “Top Knife”: The practice of aerospace medicine involves physicians and other professionals of many disciplines, all striving to help lifeforms adapt to air and space operations. In no other field of medicine are your patients so much like you. They are intelligent, witty, controlling, and presumptuous. In no other field of medicine do physicians end up identifying so strongly with their patients, often changing their outward personality, so that they begin thinking of themselves more as fliers than as doctors. The Aerospace Medicine program exists to achieve this goal and to reap the benefits of this association. This course covers various aspects of Aerospace Medicine. Whether your MOS is a Flight Surgeon, A-Medic, or E-Medic, you will find it beneficial.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100, AE100, AE201, AE291 or 301, MD100, MD201

Warning!! Due to its subject matter, MD-291 course materials are EXTREMELY graphic. If you do not feel that you can handle photographs of actual or simulated battlefield wounds, this course IS NOT FOR YOU!

MD291a Medic Certification:  MD-291 is a challenging three-part course that tests the SFMC Medic in all areas of patient assessment, decision making, and treatment in combat conditions. In order to succeed, the Medic will need to know his patients, his equipment, and his environment. Marines trust you with their lives. Upon passing this course, you will have proven worthy of that trust.

Prerequisites for this course: PD100, MD100, MD201, and a CURRENT Medical Proficiency Ribbon (which requires current CPR certification).

MD291b Medic Certification:  MD-291 is a challenging three-part course that tests the SFMC Medic in all areas of patient assessment, decision making, and treatment in combat conditions. In order to succeed, the Medic will need to know his patients, his equipment, and his environment. Marines trust you with their lives. Upon passing this course, you will have proven worthy of that trust.

Prerequisites for this course: PD100, MD100, MD201, MD291a

MD291c Medic Certification:  MD-291 is a challenging three-part course that tests the SFMC Medic in all areas of patient assessment, decision making, and treatment in combat conditions. In order to succeed, the Medic will need to know his patients, his equipment, and his environment. Marines trust you with their lives. Upon passing this course, you will have proven worthy of that trust.

Prerequisites for this course: PD100, MD100, MD201, MD291a, MD291b

MD301 Medical Independent Study Course: For the final step in the Medical Branch studies the student must complete an independent studies project. The independent studies project must either consist of a paper or another approved project. The student MUST submit a topic or project description to the Branch Director for approval. Once approved the student will then have 10 weeks to submit their independent studies project for grading. After submittal, and if the student receives a grade of Honors or Distinction on a 301-level course, they will be issued an Academic Excellence Award.
