School of Professional Development

This school instructs its students in the fine art of becoming a Professional Soldier. Being a Marine is more than a career choice, it is a life choice. This is where beings go to become Marines. Courses are currently available through the PD-301 level and all are available online for immediate credit.

Courses Available

PD100 Marine Basic Training: This is step one of the Professional Development Program. Among the topics covered in this course are Chain of Command, Basic Marine Heraldry, Basic Uniform Regulations. starting an MSG, and more.

Prerequisite for this course: Current membership in STARFLEET, the International Star Trek Fan Association, Inc.

Please note that this course must be taken and passed by all students in order to be eligible to take any other courses in the SFMCA.  


PD105 Individual Drill: This course covers basic drill, the history of drill and the proper procedure for conducting drill in the SFMC.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100


PD120 History of the SFMC: A basic study of the history of the SFMC – from the early beginnings of old Earth’s first Marines, through to study of the current Corps.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100


PD130 Marine Strike Group Overview: This course is designed to give the Marine an understanding of what is involved in the structure of a Marine Strike Group in the SFMC.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100


PD135 Marine Strike Group OIC Course: This course will help the Marine understand what is involved in starting and maintaining a Marine Strike in the SFMC and give some insight as to how to make sure your MSG remains a viable and active Strike Group that can make positive contributions to the SFMC.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100 and PD130


PD138 MSG/MTU OIC Cadet Familiarization Course: This course has been specifically designed to give MSG/MTU OIC’s a basic overview of the needs, care, and maintenance of the SFMC Cadets in their unit.

PD150 Introduction to Field and Dress Mess: This course examines the history, details, and the necessary planning for the successful implementation of either a Field or Dress Mess.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100


PD201 Primary Leadership Development Course: Step two in the Professional Development Program. This course delves into Leadership and leadership issues relevant to an SFMC unit.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100 and PD135


PD205 Marine Essential Tasks List: This course and test reinforces the Marine’s ability with, and knowledge of, the essential components of Marine’s life in the field. Those components; See, Communicate, Navigate, Shoot, Survive, and Know, are each tested in a variety of means. Applicants for this course should be prepared to do fairly extensive research utilizing research materials published by the STARFLEET Marine Corps and should also be prepared for an examination that is more thorough and comprehensive than any other course offered by Professional Development. While by far the majority of the resource material used for this course is taken directly from the METL manual, some other areas of study will be required by referencing other SFMC related material. Successful students will receive the right to wear the Marine Proficiency Ribbon upon completion with a passing grade.

PD210 SFMC Traditions, Protocols & Policies: An important step in the development of any Marine, is to have a complete understanding of the various policies, protocols and core traditions of the SFMC. This course has been created to assist with the education and understanding of these valuable elements of our culture.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100 and PD201


PD220 Battalion OIC Duties: This course is designed for Marines who wish to become appointed to the billet of, or simply become more familiar with, the duties and responsibilities of the Battalion Officer in Charge.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100, PD130, PD135


PD225 Brigade OIC Duties: This is an in-depth course for Marines who wish to be appointed to the billet of, or know more about, the duties and responsibilities of a Brigade Officer in Charge.

Prerequisite for this course: PD100, PD130, PD135, PD220


PD301 Professional Development Independent Study: For the final step in Professional Development studies, the student must complete an independent studies project. The independent studies project must either consist of a paper or another approved project. The student MUST submit a topic or project description to the Branch Director for approval. Once approved the student will then have 10 weeks to submit their independent studies project for grading. After submittal, and if the student receives a grade of Honors or Distinction on a 301-level course, they will be issued an Academic Excellence Award.
